What is the project about?

What is the purpose of the catalogue?

The international ASSET project consists on the provision of professional software to enhance internal management, traceability and sharing of research animals and their samples.

Aligned with the 3Rs, this initiative not only promotes an ethical and efficient use of animal resources but also fosters collaboration among research institutions and groups, ultimately stimulating the development of novel research ideas and maximising the scientific value of existing biological materials.

"An asset is a resource with value that an individual owns or controls with the expectation that it will provide a future benefit"

The ASSET catalogue is a centralised resource platform designed to facilitate access to high-quality lab animal research samples for the scientific community.

It supports researchers in discovering, consulting, and requesting well-characterised biological material for a wide range of experimental needs.

Each catalogue entry includes detailed metadata such as species, age, genetic background and other relevant information per collection which aims is to support informed sample selection.

To streamline your search, the ASSET catalogue is organised into the following sample collections:

Fixed Tissue Samples

Frozen Tissue Samples

Complete Organs

Blood Samples

Other Biological Fluids

Prenatal Samples

Project-Specific Samples

We also welcome new institutions interested in becoming part of the ASSET network.

If your organisation would like to contribute to the Catalogue and promote responsible sharing of lab animal materials, please contact us for more information.
